Description
More Output from a Compact, Shallow Enclosure
THE19 SUB PRO PASSIVE SEALED SHALLOW builds on the success of THE18, placing a larger 19-inch driver into an enclosure with the same exceptionally shallow 265 mm/10.43 inch depth. It takes the tight, articulate bass response, refined musicality, and impressive output of its smaller sibling even further, while retaining the installation flexibility required when conventional cube-shaped subwoofers simply will not fit.
At its core is an advanced 19-inch carbon-fiber/Rohacell® composite sandwich cone, driven by a powerful neodymium motor with a 4-inch ultra-high-temperature voice coil. Independent half-space measurements record 131.2 dB peak SPL at 63 Hz and 130.1 dB at 100 Hz in accordance with CEA-2010-B. The result is exceptional dynamic expression, control, and percussive impact from an extremely shallow enclosure.
This ultra-shallow construction makes THE19 an ideal solution for high-performance home cinemas, media rooms, and other installations in which available depth is limited but output capability and sound quality cannot be compromised.
Short-Term Peak and Sustained Output Performance
In addition to short-burst CEA-2010-B measurements, THE19 is subjected to a demanding CEA-2034-A compression test using successive two-minute test levels.
The level is initially increased in 3 dB steps and then in 1 dB steps as the system approaches its maximum usable output. Because each test level is maintained for two minutes, the voice coil and motor assembly are exposed to substantial thermal loading.
As voice-coil temperature rises, electrical resistance increases, reducing power transfer and acoustic output. The test therefore reveals thermal and mechanical compression that cannot be represented by a short tone-burst measurement alone.
The test is terminated when the defined limit of 2 dB mean compression is reached. THE19 achieves a maximum usable continuous SPL of 115.5 dB and a corresponding peak SPL of 123.7 dB at 1 meter in half-space under these sustained test conditions.
The difference between the CEA-2010-B and CEA-2034-A results is intentional:
- CEA-2010-B represents maximum short-term tone-burst capability.
- CEA-2034-A represents usable output under sustained thermal and mechanical loading.
Together, the two measurements provide a much more complete representation of real-world subwoofer performance.
Phase-Coherent Integration with Infrasonic Subwoofers
For movie reproduction extending below 20 Hz, THE19 can be used with ASCENDO’s infrasonic subwoofers, including THE24, THE28, THE32, THE64, and THE100.
When correctly filtered, time-aligned, equalized, polarity-checked, and level-matched, the systems integrate phase coherently across their respective operating ranges. This creates a seamless transition from infrasonic to low frequencies while preserving the authority, precision, and musical coherence of the complete system. The result is low-frequency reproduction that is not only heard, but experienced as one continuous and immersive event.
*For larger rooms requiring even greater output and dynamic headroom, ASCENDO also offers THE19-2 SUB PRO PASSIVE SEALED SHALLOW. It combines two 19-inch drivers in a larger enclosure while retaining the same exceptionally shallow depth.
