A 1/3-octave band divides the audible frequency spectrum into narrower segments, each spanning one-third of an octave. This finer resolution enables more accurate measurement and control of audio content. Each band is centered on a standard frequency (e.g., 100 Hz, 125 Hz, 160 Hz, etc.) and is spaced so that three bands together span a doubling in frequency.
